I was recently watching a CNBC TV18 Brand Equity television interview of one of the most powerful spiritual gurus of North India. His organization has beaten the top companies of the world at their own game. Unilever, Nestle, and other such giant companies are now second in the market place behind products made by his organization.
When asked why he was so angry at these multinationals, the guru replied that our nation, India, was being cheated by these big international companies with false promises and products that do not live up to the image that they create through advertisements. He said these giant companies are doing nothing for India though they are taking a lot of money out of the country.
CSR or Corporate Social Responsibility by these companies is limited to less than 1per cent or 2 per cent of gross revenues, he said. The guru went on to say that he was not angry, but wanted to bring these multinationals into the “fold of humanity” by teaching them a small lesson, in a way that they understood it.
I think what all gurus, big or small, are saying is the same. The “fold of humanity” is nothing but “VasudhaivaKutumbakam” which Guruji Sri Sri Ravi Shankar emphasizes time and again. Now, this does not just mean being one with everyone at your own terms. It means being one with everyone at the terms stipulated by the Divine, who acts through great Gurus like Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
There is so much chaos and stress in today’s world. The chaos and stress is not only because of “organized terrorists” but also because of people working with giant multinational organizations. Organized terrorists have been striking everywhere, the latest being the bombing of Paris in France, in such a cruelmanner. And where do these arms and ammunition come from? Where does the funding for purchase of ammunition come from? Mostly from the Group of 7 (G7) countries, I would say.
The G7 consists of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. The European Union is also represented within the G7. On the one hand, the G7 countries allow the production and sales of arms and ammunition, and on the other hand, they fund governments which nurture terrorists with millions of dollars as aid. This is the reason why Guruji Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has been urging world leaders to look at the root cause of terrorism, rather than shooting down a few terrorists or carpet bombing a few terrorist hideouts.
Now let us look at the giant multinational organizations, which make products that cannot deliver the promise of their own advertisements. If they fail to deliver what is promised, if they fail to practice ethics in business, public is bound to be discontent.
Gurus like Sri Sri Ravi Shankar can mobilize large numbers of people and bring together “VasudhaivaKutumbakam” and show that good is always stronger than evil. My mother would often tell me this story; there are so many tigers in this world that could kill all the cattle as they are weaker. But, this does not happen. This is because there is a higher, stronger force controlling the world. The world needs an event like WCF 2016 to show that this stronger force will triumph ultimately.
